Move, think, sniff, explore
and decompress

With 8 years’ experience as a dog professional and a background in dog behaviour, I understand that a good walk should support a dog’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, with plenty of opportunity to sniff, explore, move, interact and make choices.

Dogs experience the world through their noses. When they're allowed to stop and investigate scents, they're processing information about their environment. That takes concentration and mental effort.

So a dog doesn't necessarily need to spend the entire time running, fetching, or constantly interacting with other dogs to come home satisfied.

A walk that allows them to sniff, explore and make choices can be mentally and physically tiring.
